Challenge
To create a camp for 2800 security personnel who would be guarding
the world leaders attending the G8 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta,
Canada. Once the contract was awarded ATCO TRAVERS had only
five months in which to plan the set-up and operation of this
small city during June 2002.
Solution
The camp was constructed in just six weeks using new and used
modules from throughout ATCO's western Canadian fleet, which
were transported to Kananaskis by truck and installed on site.
These included sleeping quarters, washrooms, telephone booths
and kitchen / dining facilities.
Details
The extensive kitchen prepared food for all camp residents and
ATCO TRAVERS on-site staff each day. Meals and snacks available
around-the-clock, with two serving lines for quick service during
peak times.
ATCO TRAVERS (a joint venture created for this project between
ATCO Structures and Travers Food Services) was given a mandate
to leave the Nakiska ski resort - the temporary location for
more than 300 transportable buildings - in the same or better
condition than when they started. This included the moving and
installation phases of the project, when workers were not permitted
to cut down trees or even take their vehicles off designated
roads.
Once the camp was fully operational, the two-day summit passed
quickly and smoothly. ATCO TRAVERS successfully passed a final
audit, which showed no adverse impact on the site.
