Challenge
To create temporary housing for 400 military personnel involved
in UNOSOM (the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission), and temporary
office space for the United Nations staff, both in Mogadishu, Somalia.
Solution
ATCO Structures manufactured four – 100 person camps, offices
and related utilities for the United Nations in its’ Saudi
Arabian facilities. The buildings were designed for hot, humid
climates and were equipped with air conditioning, power generation,
water treatment, and associated distribution systems.
Details
These units were originally destined for a mission in Cambodia
but due to the escalating needs in war-torn Somalia, were re-routed
to Mogadishu. ATCO Structures sub-contracted the installation
of the facilities and provided site supervision during the contract.
