Challenge
To provide 59 single detached homes for Honduran employees of
a Canadian garment producer who lost their homes to Hurricane
Mitch in San Pedro, Sula, Honduras.
Solution
ATCO Structures received approval to proceed and was able to
construct, ship and supervise installation of the homes by
local laborers in 16 weeks.
Details
ATCO’s capabilities and extensive experience to respond
quickly to emergencies around the world has helped to make a
difference to the local community in San Pedro, Sula.
In Honduras, ATCO Structures also handled land improvement and
utility connections to create the new vibrant "neighborhood" now
named by the local residents as Villas El Arce -- "Maple
Houses" in recognition of the Canadian assistance. The community
had been devastated in October 1998 when Hurricane Mitch left
7,000 persons dead and caused $5 billion in crop and infrastructure
damage during its two-day sweep across Honduras.
